I recommend the following tools for producing the best-quality audio for transcription:
The Olympus DS-40 is a fantastic voice-activated recorder, great for speaking your content in the car, in the garden, or wherever your brain works best!
For teleseminar recording, you absolutely need a good headset. I recommend this set from Plantronics
And if you need a great free conferencing service, try FreeConferencePro
Audio & Video Editing
Audacity is great free software for recording and editing your audio files
Camtasia Studio is great for creating screen captures & streaming video
But if you know better and don't want to waste your own time on the above, I highly recommend Caleb Scoville and NorthBank Audio Solutions
And of course, for recording seminars, telephone interviews, etc., nothing beats AudioAcrobat
